I’m yours, I’m true Our Perfectly Handsome Politician

New poem. 

I felt like sharing my growth in writing poetry after taking some classes and reading more poetry books. During my writing of this I was listening to two of my favorite artists: Lana Del Rey & Taylor Swift. I am not going to say much this time. I would like for my work to speak for itself. Thank you for all the love and support. I appreciate you guys.

There’s two of us 
And yes she’s pretty but so am I 
Tell me why 
You need to go between us 

What’s your plan?
Besides being officer in command 
She’s being set up by your family for marriage 
not me, I’m not even around 
I’m nowhere near being known to those you love 

everything I ever wanted is in the way you hold me 

But I’m a dirty little secret 
I’m the one you call for a weekend 
Or come knocking at 2am 
When you need an escape 
When you’ve had too much of your life 
And need a getaway 

I’m yours, I’m true 

Putting you first like everyone does 
Threw out my morals—my worth 
Yet you give me so much 
Broke all my rules 
But only for you 
It’s all for you 

Our perfectly handsome politician 

I keep your dirty secret 
Living inside a fantasy 
One we’ve built together 
Until you’re ready I’ll be right here 
you take care of me and my needs
I see headlines that read all about you and she,
She looks dashing in the photos 
Just as I do on the social 

I pray 

That one day it will be all about you and I
Not the press 
Not the world 
Or what they all will say
Until then I’ll play this role 
I do it so well I’ll never tell 

at the end of the day 
Even after you say I do 
I’ll be here for you 
Because that’s what it’s come to 

I’m yours, I’m true 

And if they ever found out 
I’ll be judged 
you’ll be free
The world revolves around men like you
But for me?

I’m yours, I’m true
