Davey Duzit is a brave man determined to make his dreams a reality and is doing so everyday. He has talent that is meant to be heard and is sharing his story to help you see anything is possible despite any struggles you may endure. My advice is to be yourself, focus, work hard, but have fun. It’s not an industry where things just happen over night and you really have to be passionate. In saying that do what makes you happy-Davey Duzit Basic Questions:
1. Tell us a bit about yourself: where you grew up, where you live now and anything you feel is important to you. Help those who don’t know you learn something new, or even those who have taken the time to get a different side of the man behind the pictures, music and so forth? I was born in Sydney Australia, but my Mum and Dad moved my sister and I to Adelaide when I was about one. I grew up South of Adelaide until I was 16 and then moved to Melbourne. I also had a 5 year stint living in Sydney and have recently moved to London! So as you can guess I don’t stay in one place to long. 2. When did you decide pursuing the entertainment industry was the best career option for you? I secretly always wanted to be in the Industry. I took Dance and Acting classes when I was young, but I had somewhat of a trouble Youth so any dreams of being an Entertainer were lost. As I got into my Adult years I have struggled with Anxiety and Depression, so the thought of putting myself out there to be criticized was the last thing I wanted to do. I first started writing songs in 2013 and played around recording them on a $5 microphone over different instrumentals. Soon after I got into the Recording studio. I guess it wasn't until 2014 when I spent 3 months in New York City that I started to take it seriously. 3. What are you currently working on now? I have started recording songs for my next project and am soon to film a music video for my next single, which will hopefully be out early 2017. I’m also collaborating with other Artists here in London and have an appearance on a reality TV show for channel 5 in the UK which should be out in February. Dating, Love & Life Questions: 4. What is your definition of love? Hmmm...that's a hard one. I think Love is an emotion that is characterized by a bunch of other emotions. If that makes sense. For example to be in Love is to miss someone, to be happy, hurt, sad, confused, jealous and so on. I think there is never the same love twice and obviously different types of Love; the love you have for your best friend, Mum, Sibling, Pet. They are all different. To be in Love is a feeling, I think you just know when you are. Some people do get it confused with Lust though. 5. Are you seeing anyone special, or even have your eye on someone who can be a potential soul mate (I know not everyone believes in soulmates but I do.) I do believe in soulmates; Friends and Lovers. I am not someone who wears their heart on their sleeve and I don’t fall for people that easy. It’s not really a good thing and has a lot to do with the fear of being hurt. I have dated on and off, but I am currently single and have been so for 7 years. Still waiting for the one. 6. What do you find attractive in a man? Personality is very important for me. I am quite independent so I need to date someone who is as well. I’m not a fan of dating really needy, controlling people or hugely Jealous types. Need someone who shows they care, but is chill. I like a bit of mystery in a guy and someone who doesn’t reveal everything about themselves to soon. I also like a guy who is open minded and humble. 7. What has been your biggest struggle and what methods did you use to overcome it? I think my biggest struggle in life has been confidence. Like a lot of people I tend to self-doubt a lot and wonder if I am good enough. I try to overcome this by practice! These days I put myself out there in situations that are not comfortable for me and push my limits whenever I can. I try to say yes to as many things as I can, instead of telling myself I can’t do it. I think as you get older you care less about what people think of you. There is no one way to be or to live your life!! 8. What do you admire most about yourself? I like the fact I am open. Open to people, Experiences and try not to judge. I like the fact I can empathize and always try to put myself in someone else's shoes. I am quite opinionated, but I can be swayed and can also admit when I am wrong. 9. Do you have any fears, if so, do you want to share? I fear a lot. But I try to live in the moment as best I can. Whatever will be will be. 10. If you could give advice to your younger self what would you tell him? I would tell him to stay focused. A lot of the things you feel will pass and the things you dislike about you will one day learn to accept. Music Questions: 11. What has been the most rewarding thing about being the first LBGT rapper in Australia? Well I’m not sure about the L, the B or the T. I’m sure that there has been some Lesbian MC’s in Aussie Hop Hop before. There has probably even been some Gay guys that have dabbled in Rap, but as far as I know I am the only Gay Australian man who solely raps- is a Rapper and is actually pursuing it. I think it’s Dope, though. (lol) I grew up listening to Rap and Hip Hop. It’s been something in my life since I was 12 years old! I love the Queer Hip Hop movement coming from Artists like Mykki Blanco, Cakes Da Killa, and Le1f so I think there needs to be more of it in Australia. The most rewarding thing I guess is showing other young LGBT people that you can do anything. There isn’t just one creative career path for them. 12. Where do you get your inspiration from? All over. I’m inspired by other Artists of all musical genres, film, television, people I have met, experiences friends have been through, places I've been. There is never really one thing. Everything you hear me Rap I wrote. So It all came from some kind of experience. 13. What is your favorite part about being singer? I like the whole creative process-the songwriting, concepts for photoshoots, music videos, fashion, meeting other creatives and collaborating. It’s how I express myself and process a lot of the mess in my head. 14. Are you currently working on any new music material? Yes, I have finished two new songs and am working on my next now. 15. What is something we don’t know about your creative process that you would like to share? I guess a lot of people don’t know how hard I actually work on it. I have only been doing this for three years and didn’t come from a musical background so I have come a long way. I am not signed to a label and fund all of my own projects. I don’t have a manager and I organize absolutely everything by myself. It’s not easy!! 16. What is your top favorite three songs you have done so far? And why? Well, every time I release a new project it gets better so I would have to say the top three would be from my last project Demon’s Demise. Let’s say Popcorn Pop, Demon’s Demise and Tick Tock. I like to evolve with every project. Those tracks represent me well. I’m serious, funny, dark and deep and I think there is a bit of all of that in those songs. 17. What is your biggest struggle with being in public eye and trying to get your music heard by the right people? What steps do you take to make sure you reach your goals to make everything possible? I think the biggest struggle putting myself out there in the Public Eye is that you open yourself up to a lot of hate. It’s open season and everyone has an opinion on you. I find it hard to get my music heard as I feel as sometimes I am not Gay for the Straights and to Straight for the Gays musically. Hip Hop is still a very Homophobic genre so it’s hard to find people to take you seriously. I just make sure I work hard and continue to do what makes me happy and not live for other people. Ending Questions: 18. Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians? My advice is to be yourself, focus, work hard, but have fun. It’s not an industry where things just happen over night and you really have to be passionate. In saying that do what makes you happy. 19. What are your upcoming goals? Well, I have moved to London to push this music thing as far as I can, so my goals right now are to get myself out there; experience new things, have a good time and create Art!! 20. What are you most excited about in 2017? Being Creative and seeing more of Europe! 21. What should we expect from you project wise? Expect TV, Film, Photography and new Music! 22. Final thoughts, what is the something you always wanted to share with your fans, but haven’t yet? There is a whole lot more of me coming for 2017!! There you have it, words of wisdom from the man himself! Davey has an incredible and inspiring story. I haven't one single doubt in my mind that this guy will be taking himself to greater places than what he has already done. Be sure to keep up with him by following his IG! xx
